Navigating Belonging asks what it means to belong, for people from South Asian backgrounds across generations in Hong Kong. The project utilizes linguistic and visual ethnography, as well as co-production methods, to study narratives and engage in participatory photography. The aim is to gain a deeper understanding of belonging and settlement in order to inform practice and policy. The project team collaborated with three groups: clients of the Christian Action Centre for Refugees, HKUST students, and individuals from diverse backgrounds, ages, and life stages converging at Dream Impact. Through weekly workshops, participants learned photography principles and conducted Photovoice walks to capture images related to their sense of belonging in Hong Kong and at home. These photographs were discussed and used as the basis for the creation of 13 Digital Stories showcased on the project's website.

Our Navigating Belonging Digital Stories website has officially been launched publicly on 16 March 2024, at be/longing's Seated with Strangers event.
