Post-event update
Our event at the Centre for Refugees on 30 September was a huge success. We launched and introduced this website and our new podcast series, and then heard from Anish about his autoethnographic research on the Dosa. We were able to watch dosas being cooked in Didi’s restaurant (Karaikudi Akka) on the ground floor of Chungking Mansions during Anish’s talk, thanks to the magic of live-stream. And to our delight we were able to taste the very same dosas ourselves, when they were sent upstairs to us! The discussion was rich too, ranging across food, language, place and belonging.
Thank you to the 25 guests who joined us in Chungking Mansions and to the dozen on Zoom, and to our hosts at the Centre for Refugees. It was a joy to welcome everyone to our gathering and celebration. The contents of this event will be updated in the future, in the form of an upcoming blog post. We also plan further activities around this topic on the Nexus: BRN website – so keep a look-out for updates.
Led by Michelle and Anish, this event will mark us returning face to face in the Centre for Refugees. In this welcoming party, we will be unveiling the Nexus BRN project website developed by Michelle Pang (project research assistant). We will also feature Nexus volunteer Anish’s autoethnographic account based on Dosas (a thin crepe/pancake, made from a fermented batter of rice and lentils) - starting in his family’s kitchen and continuing through the Karaikudi Akka restaurant in Chungking Mansions. Join us for warm laughters, thoughts and dosas!
Register for the event > here <
(Note: We would only be able to accommodate up to 25 people in person, on a first come first serve basis. If the registration exceeds that number, we will try to expand and open up a Zoom room.)
